Before registering for a program, please review the following important details:

  • Equipment Requirements: All players participating in hockey programs must have proper equipment including a helmet with full cage or visor, hockey gloves, shin guards, hockey pants (breezers), shoulder pads, elbow pads, athletic cup, neck guard (recommended for youth), and hockey skates. Sticks are not provided. The Hockey Learn to Skate / Play Futures Program includes skate rentals for beginners who don’t yet own their own skates.
  • USA Hockey Membership: All participants in organized hockey programs are required to hold a valid USA Hockey membership. This membership provides insurance coverage and is mandatory for all sanctioned games and practices. Memberships can be obtained online at usahockey.com and must be presented at registration.
  • Age Classifications: Hockey age divisions (6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U) follow USA Hockey age guidelines, which are based on the player’s age as of December 31st of the current season. Please verify your child’s correct age division before registering to ensure proper placement.
  • Registration & Space Availability: Advance registration is required for all programs. Many of our programs fill quickly, especially travel teams and popular session times. We recommend registering early to secure your preferred spot. Walk-in registrations are not guaranteed.
  • Skill Level Placement: If you’re new to Aviator Hockey Club or unsure which program best fits your child’s abilities, please contact our hockey department. We’re happy to provide guidance on appropriate placement based on skating ability, hockey experience, and development goals.
  • Team Fees (Adult Leagues): Adult league pricing is per team, not per individual. Teams are responsible for organizing their own roster, collecting payment from players, and submitting the full team fee prior to the season start.
  • Cancellation Policy: Please review our cancellation and refund policy before registering. Refunds may be subject to administrative fees and deadlines depending on the program.
  • Code of Conduct: All players, parents, and spectators are expected to adhere to Aviator Hockey Club’s code of conduct. We emphasize sportsmanship, respect for coaches and officials, and positive behavior both on and off the ice.
  • Pro-Rated Enrollment: Tuition is adjusted based on the number of remaining classes at the time of registration.

Aviator Sport Club is home to two NHL-sized ice rinks, providing hockey players of all ages and skill levels with professional-grade facilities for training, practice, and competitive play. Our rinks are maintained to the highest standards, with smooth, quality ice surfaces designed for optimal skating speed, puck control, and game performance.

The facility features full-sized rinks (200′ x 85′) complete with regulation boards, shatterproof glass, player benches, and penalty boxes — giving players an authentic hockey experience that mirrors what they’ll encounter in competitive leagues and tournaments. The rinks are equipped with professional-quality lighting for clear visibility during fast-paced play.

Housed within the historic airplane hangars of Floyd Bennett Field, Aviator’s rinks offer a unique atmosphere with soaring ceilings and expansive space. The facility includes dedicated locker rooms where teams can prepare before games and practices, as well as a pro shop for equipment needs and skate sharpening services.

With seating for up to 2,000 spectators, our rinks also serve as an excellent venue for tournaments, showcases, and special events. Climate control ensures comfortable conditions year-round for both players and fans.

Ice Hockey for Kids in NYC

Hockey is one of the fastest, most demanding team sports a kid can play — and one of the most rewarding. At Aviator Sports and Events Center, ice hockey for kids NYC families rely on runs year-round across two full NHL-sized rinks at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn. From a child’s first time lacing up skates to competing in a travel league, Aviator has a program built for exactly where your kid is right now, and a clear path to where they want to be.

Youth ice hockey NYC players need more than ice time. They need structure, qualified coaches, and a program that takes development seriously. That’s what you’ll find here.

Youth Ice Hockey Programs in Brooklyn

Aviator runs one of the most complete rosters of youth hockey programs NYC has to offer. The programming covers every stage of a young player’s development:

  • ATOMs (How to Play) — the entry point for beginners, introducing kids hockey basics: skating, puck handling, and the rules of the game in a low-pressure, fun environment
  • In-House Recreational Leagues — team play for kids who’ve got the basics down and are ready for real games with teammates and structured competition
  • Aviator Hockey Club (Travel Hockey) — competitive Tier 2-AA and Tier 3-A programs for players ready to push beyond recreational play and compete against other clubs

Kids hockey classes NYC parents trust run all year, so development doesn’t stop when school starts. After school hockey programs and weekend hockey programs are both available, making it easy to build skating into a weekly routine no matter how busy family life gets.

Hockey Classes for Beginners to Advanced Players

Whether your child has never touched a stick or has been playing for years, Aviator has a place for them. Hockey lessons for kids NYC families enroll in here are organized by skill level, not just age — so beginner hockey for kids gets the patience and repetition it needs, while more experienced players get challenged and pushed.

Beginner classes focus on:

  • Skating fundamentals — edge work, stops, crossovers, and backwards skating
  • Puck control basics — stickhandling, passing, and shooting technique
  • Game awareness — positioning, reading the ice, and teamwork

As players develop, hockey skills training becomes more advanced: hockey drills for kids that replicate real game situations, competitive scrimmages, and prep for league and tournament play. The progression is clear, tracked, and built to keep kids motivated. Youth hockey beginner to advanced means every child has a lane — no one is stuck repeating the same drills, and no one gets pushed ahead before they’re ready.

Toddler hockey classes NYC parents ask about are available through the ATOMs program, which introduces the youngest skaters to hockey in an age-appropriate way. For older athletes, hockey for teens NYC is covered through both recreational and travel options. Youth hockey leagues run throughout the year for players ready to compete as part of a team.

Private and Group Hockey Training

Group hockey classes are the backbone of Aviator’s programs — structured, coach-led sessions where kids learn alongside peers at a similar level. Group training builds teamwork and discipline at the same time it builds individual skills, which is why most players start here. Hockey training for kids in a group setting also mirrors the dynamics of real game situations, which makes the transition to league play smoother.

Private hockey lessons in NYC are also available for players who want focused, one-on-one time with a coach. Private sessions are ideal for working on specific weaknesses, accelerating development, or preparing for a tryout. Children’s hockey NYC families enroll in private training covers all ages and levels, from true beginners to competitive players already in leagues.

Hockey coaches for kids at Aviator are led by Chris Werstine, Director of Ice Operations and President of the Aviator Hockey Club — a proven program builder with deep roots in the NYC hockey community. Coaches here understand kids development and know how to build both skill and confidence over time. All ages are welcome, from the youngest ATOMs skaters to high school-age players competing at the travel level. The indoor ice rink runs year-round, so there’s no off-season and no gap in development. Private lessons are available for any player who wants one-on-one time — whether they’re a complete beginner or already competing in leagues.

Why Aviator is the Best Hockey Program in NYC

There’s no shortage of places offering youth hockey programs NYC-wide, but Aviator stands out for a few reasons that matter to parents and kids alike.

Two NHL-sized rinks. Most facilities have one. Having two means more ice time per program, fewer scheduling conflicts, and the ability to run multiple skill levels simultaneously without anyone getting shortchanged.

Affordable hockey programs. Competitive youth sports can get expensive fast. Aviator is built for Brooklyn families, not just elite travel athletes. Affordable options at multiple levels mean more kids get to play.

A genuine pathway. A child can start in ATOMs at age 5 and work all the way through to the Aviator Hockey Club travel program — without ever leaving the facility. That kind of long-term development track is rare. It’s what makes this an NYC hockey academy for kids, not just a drop-in program.

Best hockey classes for kids, backed by community. Junior hockey tournaments, organized leagues, hockey camps in NYC during summers — the program doesn’t stop at training. It puts kids in competitive situations where the skills they’ve built get tested and refined.
