/ TRAIN. PROGRESS. PERFORM / About Figure Skating Lessons

Figure skating is a beautiful blend of athleticism, artistry, and grace — and at Aviator Sport Club, we’re proud to provide a world-class environment for skaters to pursue their passion. Whether you’re a beginner learning to balance on the ice for the first time, an intermediate skater working on crossovers and spins, or an advanced competitor perfecting your program for the next competition, our facility offers everything you need to succeed.

Our two NHL-sized rinks provide generous space for skaters to practice without feeling crowded, allowing you to focus on your technique, musicality, and performance. With private and semi-private lessons available from experienced coaches, you’ll receive personalized feedback and guidance tailored to your goals. Sessions are offered seven days a week, giving you the flexibility to build a training schedule that fits your life — whether you’re a student balancing school, a working professional, or a dedicated competitor training for your next event.

At Aviator, we welcome skaters of all ages and skill levels. Come discover why Brooklyn’s figure skating community calls our rinks home.

Before booking a freestyle session, please review the following important details.

Freestyle sessions require advance online registration. Walk-ins are not permitted, so please reserve your ice time prior to arrival.

These sessions are not public skating. Freestyle ice is designated exclusively for figure skaters. Participation is limited to skaters who are either:

  • taking a scheduled lesson with an approved coach, or
  • enrolled in Learn to Skate and certified at Basic 5 level or higher.

Skaters attending freestyle sessions without a coach must hold a valid Learn to Skate USA (LTS USA) membership and meet the minimum skill requirement. This ensures a safe and structured training environment for everyone on the ice.

If you are booking a private or semi-private lesson, please coordinate scheduling and lesson fees directly with your coach. Ice time fees are charged separately.

All skaters are expected to follow standard freestyle rink etiquette, including awareness of other skaters, yielding to those in programs, and respecting shared ice space.

  • Pro-Rated Enrollment: Tuition is adjusted based on the number of remaining classes at the time of registration.

Aviator Sport Club features two NHL-sized ice rinks, offering figure skaters some of the finest training facilities in the New York metropolitan area.

Our rinks are maintained to the highest standards, with smooth, freshly resurfaced ice designed to support jumps, spins, and advanced footwork.

The facility’s high ceilings and open hangar-style layout — a legacy of the historic airplane hangars at Floyd Bennett Field — create a bright, spacious, and inspiring training atmosphere unlike traditional indoor rinks.

With excellent lighting, professional conditions, and ample space, Aviator provides an ideal environment whether you are preparing for competition, progressing through Learn to Skate levels, or refining your skills.

Freestyle sessions operate in a shared-ice format. Skaters of varying ages and skill levels may be present during the same session.

For safety and comfort, all participants must wear appropriate figure skating equipment and follow posted rink rules at all times.

Aviator Sport Club reserves the right to adjust session capacity, ice schedules, or access requirements as needed to maintain a safe and high-quality training environment.

Figure Skating Classes in NYC

There are very few places in New York City where you can step onto an NHL-sized ice rink and receive coaching from instructors who’ve trained athletes at the highest levels of the sport. Aviator Sports and Events Center at Floyd Bennett Field is one of them. Whether you’re searching for figure skating classes nyc for your child, looking up figure skating class near me as an adult who always wanted to learn, or hunting for the best figure skating classes near me for a competitive skater, Aviator has a program structured to meet you where you are.

The indoor ice rink runs year-round, which means no waiting for winter and no gap in your training when the seasons change.

Figure Skating Classes for Beginners and All Levels

Not everyone who walks through Aviator’s doors has ever been on the ice before. That’s fine. Beginner skating lessons here are genuinely beginner — patient, structured, and designed to make first-time skaters feel capable and confident from session one. Adults who’ve been hesitant to try are just as welcome as toddlers finding their footing for the first time.

Group classes follow a clear progression. Skaters start with fundamentals — balance, basic edges, stops, and glides — and move through increasingly technical skills as their confidence builds. The structure is designed so every skater knows where they stand and what comes next.

Classes cover all ages. Figure skating classes for beginners near me is one of the most common searches that leads families to Aviator, and that’s exactly the entry point the program is built for. From there, skaters can work toward freestyle skating sessions, artistic programs, and more advanced technical training — all at the same Brooklyn location.

Ice skating Brooklyn options exist, but few offer the consistency of coaching, the quality of ice, and the depth of programming that Aviator does.

Private and Group Figure Skating Lessons

Aviator offers both group sessions and private figure skating lessons Brooklyn families and adults rely on for targeted development.

Group classes are the foundation. Small groups of skaters at similar skill levels train together under direct coach supervision. It’s social, encouraging, and cost-effective — and the group dynamic tends to push skaters in ways solo training doesn’t.

Private figure skating lessons Brooklyn are available for skaters who want individualized attention. One-on-one time with a coach allows for focused work on specific elements — jumps, spins, footwork sequences, or competition preparation. Private lessons are available for all levels, from adult skating lessons for someone who’s never skated before to advanced athletes preparing to compete.

The coaches at Aviator are a genuine differentiator. These are olympic-level skating coaches and professionals with backgrounds in competitive and artistic skating — not weekend instructors. They bring structured methodology and real-world competition experience to every session, whether that’s a first beginner class or a pre-competition private lesson. Training programs here are organized with clear levels, so skaters always know what they’re working toward and coaches can track progress meaningfully.

What Programs Are Available?

  • Beginner group classes (ages 3 and up through adults)
  • Progressive level classes (beginner to advanced)
  • Freestyle skating sessions for intermediate and advanced skaters

Why Choose Aviator Figure Skating Programs

The figure skating lessons New York skaters find at most rinks are adequate. What Aviator offers goes further.

Two NHL-sized rinks mean the ice is never overcrowded and training time isn’t compromised. The facility runs dedicated figure skating sessions separate from public skate and hockey programming, so skaters get real training in a real training environment.

The coaching staff understands kids development — not just technique. Building confidence matters as much as edge work. Getting a child to love the ice is as important as getting them to land a clean jump. That’s the philosophy that runs through every ice skating class NYC parents enroll their kids in at Aviator.

The community here reinforces it. Skating at Aviator means being part of a broader athletic environment where kids see what’s possible, push each other, and build friendships that go well beyond the rink. The fun environment — supportive coaches, engaged peers, and beautiful ice — is a big reason skaters stick with the program long-term.

For skaters serious about the sport, the combination of private lessons, group classes, freestyle ice time, and professional coaches creates a training program that can take them as far as they want to go. Figure skating Brooklyn NY has never offered a more complete path to development.
